Our statement

We believe a sustainable Africa will be built on evidence, driven by innovation and sustained by capable people and institutions. Climate & Sustainability Africa exists to connect all three.

Our three pillars

What we stand for.

Everything we do, from a research question to a training session, sits under one of three commitments.

I

Evidence & Insight

Know what works.

Rigorous, applied research, spatial analysis and data that make sustainability decisions better informed, with limitations stated as clearly as findings.

  • Research agenda
  • Insights & publications
  • GIS & environmental data
II

Innovation in Practice

Make it work.

Testing and documenting practical solutions, from fuel-efficient stoves and renewable energy to digital environmental monitoring, and designing projects that can attract finance.

  • Initiatives & case studies
  • Project development
  • Environmental technology
III

Capable People & Institutions

Make it last.

Building the skills, governance and systems that keep sustainability embedded in organisations long after a single project ends.

  • Learn: courses & training
  • Advisory & ESG integration
  • Governance & reporting

There is no sustainable future without innovation.

Not innovation for its own sake, but new tools, models and partnerships that work in African conditions: low-cost environmental monitoring, finance-ready project design, participatory methods and digital learning that reaches people wherever they are.

What we do

Five connected areas of work.

Each feeds the others. Initiatives generate evidence, research interrogates it, insights and courses share it, and advisory work puts it to use inside institutions.

Mapping climate risk to improve water access in Lupane.

Spatial analysis of boreholes, dams, rivers, wetlands, villages, schools and clinics showed where drought left communities most exposed. The evidence drew stakeholders' attention to critical gaps and informed planning to improve access to water.

What we explore

The questions behind our work.

African sustainability challenges are interconnected, so we examine environmental, social, institutional and financial dimensions together.

Climate resilience & environmental risk

Where vulnerability concentrates, and how evidence can guide adaptation.

Sustainable & climate finance

What it takes for local climate needs to become credible, fundable projects.

ESG governance & institutions

How organisations embed sustainability in decisions, not just reports.

Water security & natural resources

Water insecurity as a systems problem of infrastructure, access and governance.

Green economic transformation

Where green jobs, skills, livelihoods and investment meet.

Youth participation & co-creation

Young people as co-owners of solutions, not consultees.

Sustainability education

Building knowledge that practitioners can actually apply.

Environmental data, GIS & decisions

Turning monitoring and spatial data into better decisions.

Our vision

An Africa where climate resilience and sustainable development are built on credible evidence, capable institutions and finance that reaches the places it is needed most.

Our mission

To strengthen sustainability implementation in Africa by generating usable evidence, documenting what works in practice, building practical skills and supporting institutions to act.

Our core values

01

Integrity

We tell the truth about evidence, including its limits, and describe our role exactly as it was.

02

Innovation

Hover to read

We look for better ways of doing things, and test them before we claim them.

03

Inclusion

Hover to read

Communities and young people shape solutions as co-creators, not as beneficiaries.

04

Rigour

Hover to read

Academic discipline in method, and practical value in every output.

05

Stewardship
