Research agenda

Questions that matter.

Research is at the core of Climate & Sustainability Africa. Our agenda focuses on applied questions where environmental systems, institutions, finance and development meet: questions whose answers can change what practitioners, institutions and communities actually do.

Questions we are pursuing

Eight applied questions.

Each question connects to our initiatives and to an Insights series, so research, practice and analysis inform one another.

Climate risk & resilience

Where is vulnerability concentrated, and how can spatial evidence guide adaptation investment?

Sustainable & climate finance

What makes local climate projects finance-ready, and how can that readiness be built locally?

ESG & financial institutions

Which governance arrangements move ESG from policy into decisions?

Water security

How do infrastructure, governance and climate interact to produce water insecurity?

Green transformation

How can green jobs and skills reach the people most exposed to the transition?

Participation

What conditions allow young people and communities to co-create solutions?

Data & decisions

How does environmental monitoring become decision intelligence?

Innovation

Which low-cost tools and models can work reliably in African conditions, and at scale?

How we research

Our research standard

Our outputs should be analytically credible and useful to practitioners, institutions, communities and decision-makers. Every output sets out its methods, evidence, limitations and implications clearly, and distinguishes findings from interpretation.

Collaborate with us.

We welcome collaboration with researchers, universities, institutions and communities working on these questions, through joint research, data sharing, fieldwork or co-authored publications.
