Case study 06
Supporting a bank's sustainability certification journey and finance for climate resilience and clean energy.
Financial institutions are increasingly expected to manage environmental and social risk, meet recognised sustainability standards and direct finance towards a low-carbon, climate-resilient economy. This work supports a Zimbabwean bank's sustainability certification journey under recognised standards, contributing to governance, policy and reporting, and supports initiatives that mobilise finance for climate resilience and clean energy, including programmes improving access to solar energy in underserved communities.
Banks sit at the centre of the economy. Through their lending and investment decisions they shape which projects go ahead, so how they manage environmental and social risk, and what they choose to finance, matters well beyond the bank itself.
A common pattern is that sustainability becomes a reporting exercise or a single department's responsibility. Real integration requires sustainability to influence governance, policy, risk, products and everyday processes, while finance must reach the communities and projects that most need climate resilience and clean energy.
The work supports the bank's sustainability certification journey under recognised sustainability standards, contributing to sustainability governance, policy and reporting, and to environmental compliance and environmental management system processes. Alongside this, it supports initiatives that mobilise finance for climate resilience and clean energy:
The work contributes to strengthening sustainability governance, policy and reporting within the institution, and to initiatives that extend clean energy and climate-resilience finance, including improved access to solar energy in underserved communities.
